That’s just the way it is, by Didier Bourdon and Robert Rigby

That’s just the way it is est le catalogue d’exposition d’une série de onze peintures de Didier Bourdon, chacune accompagnée d’un texte de Robert Rigby, journaliste, auteur, chanteur et « songwriter » anglais. Chaque texte est titré d’une chanson célèbre de pop music – citons les deux premières « Should I Stay Or Should I Go? » – The Clash, « On The Road Again » – Canned Heat. Le catalogue est une brochure dos carré cousu de 32 pages, imprimée en offset HR-UV en quadrichromie sur papier Munken Lynx 150 g/m² d’Arctic Paper – la couverture est elle imprimée en numérique, toujours sur papier Arctic Paper, un Munken Pure à la teinte crème au grammage de 300 g/m². Un pourcentage des profits réalisés sur ce livre autoédité sera reversé à la Earth Restoration Service Charity pour replanter des arbres, et au Festival Artistes à Suivre, Association d’artistes de la Haute-vallée de l’Aude.

Sometimes, frequently over a coffee and a croissant, Didier and I like to talk about Art in all is varied forms, and about our approach to our work. As a writer I strive to create a good story, a driving, compulsive narrative, with a beginning, a middle and an end. Didier, unlike many artists, maintains that there is never a story or narrative in this work. « But I see a story in many of your paintings », I said to him once. « Yes, but that’s down to you », he answered, « It’s what you see. All I can tell you is that when I paint there’s no story in my head or in the work ».
